2012 Selig
& Associates began providing pro bono
tax representation to survivors of domestic violence. One of the saddest
stories I ever heard, said David Selig. We represented a woman who had been
abducted, raped and severely brutalized. Her assailant burnt her with
cigarettes and broke her neck. She was profoundly traumatized and the IRS was
garnishing her Social Security Disability check and systematically levying her
bank account. After we intervened the IRS acquiesced, granted her a full
release and suspended all collections. In 2015 we were informed that she
passed away (may she rest in peace).
2012 - 2013 Selig
& Associates provided pro bono tax
representation to victims of Hurricane Sandy. Even though President Obama
issued an emergency declaration for the State of New York the IRS continued to
enforce collections and levy bank accounts. Attorney Bradley intervened and was
instrumental in persuading the IRS to suspend collections. I’ll never forget
the gratitude [name withheld] expressed after we got the IRS to release her
bank accounts recalls Attorney Dorin. About two years later I received a tremendous
package from Bethlehem Pennsylvania. Inside was a large oil painting of the
South Street Seaport and an extremely emotional message of appreciation. It’s
these small and special moments that make being an attorney so rewarding.
2014
Selig & Associates provided pro bono
tax representation to indigent senior citizens and joined best selling author, television
personality and journalist Rita Cosby in her
support of the Wounded Warrior Project. I’m a former Marine said David Selig, and
my son is a decorated combat veteran who fought in Afghanistan, and came home
without a scratch. So when Rita called me I damn sure wasn’t going to turn my
back on my brothers and sisters who served and suffered. I’m very grateful to
Rita for giving us the opportunity to help.
2015
Selig & Associates provided pro bono
tax representation to honorably discharged military veterans and at risk
individuals. During tax year 2015 we helped several women of color re-enter the
workforce said Attorney Dorin. Legal Aid and free law clinics provide
essential services, but these organizations lack the resources and
technical expertise needed to solve tax problems. We're a small, high-profile tax representation firm and the
majority of our clients own businesses or are professionals. So it’s nice to do
something for the less fortunate, particularly if they wouldn't normally have access to an attorney and tax accountant.
2016
Selig & Associates increased its caseload by providing pro bono tax representation to the disabled. Additionally, Selig & Associates publicly supported
City Harvest, Pets of the Homeless and the New York City Coalition Against
Hunger.
2017 Selig
& Associates increased its caseload by providing pro bono tax representation to at risk members of the LGQT community.
2018 Selig & Associates will participate in New York’s Work Release Program. This program allows inmates who are within two years of their earliest
release date to become reintegrated back into the community through Work Release.
